Our reading challenge for July is inspired by America’s celebrated holiday- the Fourth!
For the month of JULY, choose one book from each category:
*a book that details or celebrates the formation of the United States as a country OR a book that features a prominent character in the military or government
*a book set in a location you’ve traveled to OR lived in
*a book that features a person seeking freedom OR striking out on his/her own
*a book that takes place in the summertime
Here are the books I’ve chosen to read for the month. I’m excited to get reading (and I’d better because I’ve got a lot of pages to get through in what always feels like a short month!).
#1- a book that details or celebrates the formation of the United States as a country OR a book that features a prominent character in the military or government- Where Two Hearts Meet by Liz Johnson. I’m taking a bit of a shortcut on this one and finishing up a book I started a while back and didn’t have time to finish. The love interest in this story, Adam Jacobs, is a journalist who’s seen war time.
#2- a book set in a location you’ve traveled to or lived in- A Light on the Hill by Connilyn Cossette. I traveled to Israel in 2010, so this one about cities of refuge set in Biblical times sounds really interesting.
#3- a book that features a person seeking freedom OR striking out on his/her own- Melody Carlson’s Under a Summer Sky. The main character, high school teacher, Nicole Anderson, leaves her ordinary life for a whirlwind summer of romance and mystery house-sitting a family friend’s luxurious estate.
#4- a book that takes place in the summertime- Shark Bait by Cara Putman. What’s more summery than Martha’s Vineyard and a mystery surrounding Jaws?
So, how about you? Anybody out there chosen any good reads for this month’s challenge? Let me know in the comments!
